Salvia Hot Lips is the shrubby sage everyone stops to ask about. Each small bloom is split between white and bright cherry red, and the plant decides the mix by temperature: mostly red in the heat of summer, mostly white in cool spells, and the classic red-lipped-on-white two-tone in between, often all three on the same plant at once. It blooms from spring until frost, draws hummingbirds and butterflies all season, and the leaves smell faintly of mint when brushed. Give it full sun to light shade and well-drained soil; once established it is drought tough and needs almost nothing. Shear it back in late winter to keep it full. You receive one live plant in a 1 gallon nursery container, container grown for its whole life and never field dug, then hand packed in central Louisiana.
