Blue Rug Juniper (Juniperus horizontalis 'Blue Rug')
Low-growing evergreen groundcover with striking silvery-blue foliage.
Blue Rug Juniper is a popular, vigorous creeping juniper that forms a dense, carpet-like mat of evergreen foliage. Its soft, scale-like leaves have a beautiful silvery-blue to steel-blue color that stands out in the landscape, especially in winter when the color intensifies.

- Mature Size: Grows 6–12 inches tall and 6–8 ft wide (spreads widely)
- Growth Habit: Low, prostrate, and spreading — excellent ground-hugging form
- Foliage: Feathery, silvery-blue evergreen needles that provide year-round color
- Seasonal Interest: Maintains attractive blue tones through all seasons; subtle blue-black berries in winter
- Tough & Adaptable: Extremely drought tolerant, deer resistant, salt tolerant, and handles poor, sandy soils
Ideal For:
- Groundcover and erosion control
- Slopes and banks
- Rock gardens and xeriscapes
- Foundation plantings and spilling over walls
- Mass plantings and between pavers
Care: Full sun. Plant in well-drained soil (tolerates sandy and rocky soils). Water regularly until established, then very drought tolerant. Prune lightly if needed to control spread.
